Bandwidth allocation in Diffserv-enabled ethernet passive optical networks

چکیده
Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs) have attracted considerable attention from industry as they offer a simple, highly flexible and cost effective solution to the problem of providing broadband access to a customer. In this paper, a new approach to bandwidth allocation in EPONs is presented where the Optical Line Terminator (OLT) has full control over the access mechanism. This results in much simpler Optical Network Unit (ONU) architecture. It is shown in this paper that such an OLT-centric architecture offers full support for Differentiated Services and makes enforcement of Service Level Agreements possible. Extensive simulation experiments show that bandwidth allocation algorithms deployed in such a centralized environment can deliver good performance in terms of average and maximum packet delay. In this paper two new algorithms are introduced that target SLAaware EPONs and provide a good protection of offered quality of service against interference from other sources. متن کاملParnian: a Two-stage Nested-auction for Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks
One of the key challenges in next generation access networks based on Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) technology is Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) process. In this paper we have proposed ‘Parnian’, a two-stage nested-auction for dynamic bandwidth allocation management in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks. In the proposed ‘Parnian’ method, by running nested auction, based on EPON arc...

متن کاملEnhanced Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks
Byungjoo Park et al. 301 As broadband access is evolving from digital subscriber lines to optical access networks, Ethernet passive optical networks (EPONs) are considered a promising solution for next generation broadband access. The point-tomultipoint topology of EPONs requires a time-division multiple access MAC protocol for upstream transmission. In this paper, we propose a new enhanced dyn...

201 Abstract— A detailed understanding of the many facets of the Internet’s topological structure is critical for evaluating the performance of networking protocols, for assessing the effectiveness of proposed techniques to protect the network from nefarious intrusions and attacks, or for developing improved designs for resource provisioning. In this way Available bandwidth estimation is a vita...
